Different, but just as good as the rest of the series August 7, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
There's less romance, but more excitement. Less emotion, more action. Stephenie Meyer surprises one. And I like the happy ending. Who would have expected it (not being sarcastic)? Don't people get tired of watching characters they've bonded with die?
Essentially, the characters remain more or less the same (not much character development one could say), and the focus moves to what they do rather than what they think and feel - except in Jacob's section, which I really enjoyed. The storyline takes unexpected turns all along and Stephenie Meyer really cranks up the tension.
I highly reccommend it, but you just have to get past a few chapters and realise that this book is different in feel from the earlier ones.
Loved It August 7, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I honestly can't understand why so many disliked this final book in the "Twilight" series. I loved the first three books and thought "Breaking Dawn" was an excellent capstone to the story. For me, it was possibly the best in the series. One reviewer I saw complained about how neat and tidy the ending was and how real life is never that way. Two comments about that...
First, given that the last chapter was entitled "Happily Ever After", it shouldn't have been that big of a surprise. Second, the entire series (ie, vampires & werewolves) hardly compares to real life anyway. If one is looking for reality, grab something from the non-fiction section instead. Personally, I love neat and tidy endings specifically because real life never is that way; there is enough disappointment and horror in the world these days that I really enjoyed reading a book that ended happily.
My one and only complaint would be that it was so hard for me to put down that I unfortunately read into the wee hours for several nights in a row. Given how crappy I feel now, I'm not sure it was worth it--but that's how good it was to me. The Edward vs Jacob situation bothered me throughout the first three books and I found myself switching sides frequently. It certainly added a lot of tension to the series. I will just say that, whether one was rooting for Edward or for Jacob, the conclusion should satisfy both sides. I highly recommend this book.
Breaking Dawn was the Best!!!!!!!! August 7, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have read some of the other reviews and I must say I am so disappointed by them. Breaking Dawn was by far my favorite of the four. I thought it was a perfect way to end the book. Remember, Stephenie Meyer didn't really write the books for us. She wrote them for herself, something I think everyone forgot. This was her story. Sure we can have an opinion but it really doesn't matter. She told her reasoning's for what happened in each of the books and this one was to resolve everything. We should feel privileged she has allowed us to read the conclusion she chose. Sure, we may think something's were too corny or cheesy, but wouldn't the world be a happier and better place if we all had a little more cheese in our lives?? Bella already chose Edward in Eclipse so this was her way to tell us how their story would end, or continue in their case. I feel like this book was the Perfect Conclusion to telling Bella and Edward's story. Remember that she said she may write more books about other characters. I loved Breaking Dawn!!!!!!!!
Twilight fans, don't bother August 7, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you loved Twilight, as i did, and got sucked in, don't bother reading this book. as far as i'm concerned, the story ended at the end of Twilight, and edward bit bella at prom. i'm going to sell the rest of the books and forget this awful, awful ending ever happened.
and by the way, so sick of bella, thought it would get better when she became a vamp. the main character in host is the same. it's just the same story told over and over and over again! if you thought this book would finally bring something new and exciting you're wrong again.
Missing Edward and Bella already.... August 7, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
**SPOILER ALERT** First, let me say that I overall enjoyed the book. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because it covered way too much...there is nearly no time at all for the lovely Edward and Bella moments from Books 1-3. Alice's character (and the others, too) are rather flat, because so much time is dedicated to watching Bella in agony, and then preparing for the confrontation with the Volturi. I think if the story had been split across two books with more story about post-wedding life for Edward and Bella (before getting pregnant, that is) it would have been much better. Still, I read the book by the end of the day Saturday 8/2/08 and loved it like the first three.
