TO DIE...

When Jillian Rivers opens her eyes, she's trapped in a mangled car. Then a stranger, claiming to be a trail guide named Zane MacGregor, pries her free. 4 out of 5 stars Left to die - with a few flaws.   December 26, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Lured by ominous calls and photographs someone sends of her allegedly dead husband, Jillian Rivers finds herself on a slippery road deep in Montana's Bitterroot Mountains - and quickly down a steep ravine after her car spins out of control.
The accident, however, wasn't caused by the treacherous winter weather. Jillian wrecked her car after one of her tires blew out - shot by a sniper, a serial killer, hiding somewhere and hunting down his next victim.
The man who peels Jillian out of her car, Zane MacGregor, could be friend - a Good Samaritan who just happens to reside in a lonely cabin close by, or foe - the ruthless killer, who first nurtures his victims back to health and then disposes of them in the most imaginable way; tied nacked to a tree and left to die of exposure. Well, no matter what MacGregor is, his mysterious demeanor and the rugged way of a loner makes him easy on the eye, and Jillian is not oblivious to the fact that she is growing an attraction to the man that might be signing her death sentence.

The police are chasing their tail. A star, carved in the tree trunk above the victims is besides notes including the victims inititals, the only hint.

Lisa Jackson kept me on my toes with this dramatically and vividly woven suspense, eh, make that thriller. Until the middle of the book, I wasn't sure if I should love or hate MacGregor.
The lead detectives, a two-men-team of girl-cops, have their own battles to fight; a divorcee and single mother of two teenagers, Regan Pescoli manages to enjoy a little bit of love-life while fighting with her ex. Her partner, Selena Alvarez, is trying hard to keep something very unpleasant about her past hidden beneath her all-to-perfect role as good cop.

Clearly, Jackson fabricated a thrill-ride; one of those rare novels I will read again. Suspenseful, intriguing, thrilling, and oh so sexy.
Granted; the big boom at the end was not as big as anticipated, if not slightly flat, and I understand that some readers are annoyed by not having the whodunnit-question answered.
Make no mistake - this is a thick book. Almost 500 pages in paperback. I know, that the story could easily be shortened by 15'000 words and not lose its momentum. I actually would welcome it, because I was able to skip a few paragraphs when Pescoli got on my nerves, and I never lost track.
However; the way Jackson held me by the throat through-out the book, made up for it's few flaws. Therefore it deserves 4 stars.

1 out of 5 stars To be continued...........   December 20, 2008
I have never in my life been so infuriated at a book as this one. I hate it when I watch a show on TV and find out that it's only part 1 and that I have to wait until the next week to find out how it ends. But doing it to a book is much, much worse! The ending of the story isn't even going to come out until August. Does the author really think I'm so intrigued with this storyline that I'm actually going to remember or care a year from now that I don't know who the serial killer in this book was??? No, what I'm going to remember is that Lisa Jackson wrote a half-book, and that I should be careful the next time I pick up one of her books. If it doesn't say, "The whole story is enclosed in the pages of this book," I won't be reading it.

5 out of 5 stars Left To Die Left Me Wanting More   December 14, 2008
Lisa Jackson is a stellar Author! Though detectives Pescoli and Alvarez characters need some work (kind of boring redundant lives) The Jillian and Zane story line is incredible! Keeps you guessing, keeps you suspicious, keeps you wanting more story about this dangerous pairing!
I'm totally willing to wait for the next book. This was my first experience with this author and I think she's amazing! Thumbs up Lisa!Left To Die

2 out of 5 stars Feeling ripped off   December 14, 2008
Yes, this was my first Lisa Jackson novel. And yes, this will be my last. This book was written as a ruse from the beginning. Isn't there enough cheap sales scams out there without actually designing one into your novel? I will not be reading the follow up book, or anything else Jackson writes. I chose to read this book while on a cruise and was I ever disappointed after wading through the dialogue just to reach the end and realize that there was no conclusion. The book was long enough, but if placed end to end this book and its sequel would be torture. With all your choices out there, keep shopping.

3 out of 5 stars not as good as some of her others   December 11, 2008
This one was not as good as some of her other series of books. It was dis jointed at times, and confusing.
The detectives alverez and pescoli are very interesting and leave you wondering what is up with them and their past.
I would like to know more about Alverez and her family and what makes her tick.
The Relationship between Jillian and Zane is pretty predictable.. but good.
It does leave you wondering, what happens next, does she and cat move in with him, or what??
The ending seemed kind of rushed and i do wish it was not so long between the series sequels. That is frustrating.
By the time the next one comes out , you have to re read the first one to remember what happend.
I gave it only 3 stars for the lack of definition and predictablity.
Hope the next one is better.
