Amazon.com If you've ever doubted how much a star can carry a movie, look no further than Legally Blonde, Robert Luketic's pop fluff about a sorority girl who becomes the reigning brain at Harvard Law School. The film tries way too hard to be pop fluff, but thankfully it also understands the comic glories of Reese Witherspoon. As Elle Woods, the supposedly dimwitted heroine, Witherspoon gives a high-wattage performance that somehow comes across as both lusciously cartoonish and warmly human. It's a radiant comic turn worthy of Marilyn Monroe, and Luketic throws the whole movie at her, even though its intentional kitsch and sledgehammer contrivances don't trust you enough to figure out on your own what might be guilty fun about it. It's a lame movie, essentially, that redeems itself by knowing just enough to keep things sunny and moving right along. The film is content to follow several steps behind the regal Witherspoon, carrying her train. You probably will be, too. --Steve Wiecking

Happy people don't kill their husbands, they just don't. September 5, 2008 Elle Woods(Reese Witherspoon) is young, blonde, beautiful and the president of Delta Nu Sorority, she has a hunky boyfriend Warner(Matthew Davis) and everything in her life seems pretty perfect.
That is until Warner dumps her for being too much of a marilyn, and not enough of a Jackie on the night Elle believes Warner will propose!
How dare he say Elle wasn't smart?! Now Elle is determined to go to Harvard to study Law(where Warner just happens to be going) to win her man back!
With the help of her sorority sisters, her dog bruiser and some well timed mani-pedis Elle gets into harvard, but it will take a lot more then just that to get her through difficult classes, snotty teachers, and the biggest obstacle, Warner's new fiance Vivian(Selma Blair).
Elle even gets one of four internship spots at an elite law firm for a big case, involving a fellow Delta Nu! She even gets to work with Emmett(Luke Wilson) a sweet and mature advisor on the case.
It may not be the most realistic story, but who says a blonde sorority girl can't be smart! Elle is strong, motivated and Reese brings her to life impeccably. She sends us all a great message to be yourself, and never settle for something that doesn't love you as much as you love it.
"But if I'm going to be a partner in a law firm by the time I'm 30, I need a boyfriend who's not such a complete bonehead." (Sorry Warner!)

Predictable yet Enjoyable May 13, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
In my 4 decades of movie watching, I don't know if I've ever seen one with a more predictable plot than this one. The writers made no effort to mislead the viewer, unlike movies such as Charade with Audrey Hepburn or Sixth Sense. None the less, Legally Blonde was quite enjoyable thanks to Reese Witherspoon's spirited acting, some good gag lines, Reese's amazing pink wardrobe, her Chihuahua's amazing and often coordinating wardrobe, and clever supporting characters. Unfortunately, the supporting characters like the angry lesbian law student and Raquel Welsh as a pampered wealthy socialite only had a few lines and were pretty much background for Reese Witherspoon, but they did add some interest and amusement. Reese Witherspoon's acting carries this movie and brings it from a mediocre 3 stars to a respectable 4.
Sweertheart of a film! January 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Legally Blonde is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's not groundbreaking, it has no pretensions of greatness -- but it's absolutely tops for wonderful laughs and a cute chick-lit kind of story.
Legally Blonde is more endearing every time I watch it.
Funny and Witty! November 16, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Witty and smart is how I'd describe this movie. I'm a big fan of Reese Witherspoon, so she's an added bonus to this movie. I saw this movie once and fell in love with it so I had to buy it. It's so funny and cute at the same time. Definitely a movie to see!
