Katherine Heigl is delightful as Jane, a self-effacing Gal Friday so addicted to organizing weddings in her off time, that 27 Dresses opens with her character juggling two nuptials on the same night. A perpetual bridesmaid, Jane's hobby is discovered by a matrimony reporter named Kevin (James Marsden), who hides a romantic side behind his wall of cynicism. While Kevin gradually develops feelings for Jane, the latter's superficial sister, Tess (Malin Akerman), pursues George (Edward Burns), Jane's boss and the object of her love. This romantic circle could go on forever, except that Jane is unexpectedly moved by Kevin despite her general irritation with him and without knowing that he's on the verge of sandbagging her with a ridiculing article in his newspaper. The situation is absurd, but the emotions are not. Heigl is very good, rooted in a long tradition of comely comediennes playing characters who fly under the radar of life. She makes Jane's pain palpable and conveys her character's inability to say no without making her look unappealing or weak. Marsden perfectly captures the part of a rumpled, underdressed writer with repressed passions, Akerman is as convincingly shrewish here as she was in The Heartbreak Kid, and Burns is fine as one of those guys so busy saving the world he barely pays attention to the people in his life. The script by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada) is fun if predictable, and Anne Fletcher's direction is vibrant. --Tom Keogh

This is a typical chick flick and completely predictable..having said that I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jane(katerhine Hiegle) is always a bridesmaid, and LOVES it, or so she says. She is secretely in love with her boss George played by Edward Burns. Everything changes when her always prettier sister Tesscomes to stay with her and her and George get along great... Jane reexamines her always a bridemaids way of thinking.
She is helped along by James Marsden who plays Kevin who is a writer.
Between Kevins synical way of thinking and Janes Idealistic way of looking at love, you know they are constantly disagreeing.
Although it is predictible, it is fun and lighthearted and has some great laugh out loud moments....

I tried to watch it more then once it was not well done. I was really upset. I watched because Katherine Heigl is a good actress. The movie had no point. She was in love with the guy that Katherine Heigls sister "fall in love with". She lied about everything. So obviously the wound up not together. Katherine Heigl was cute and bubbly like usual but overal the movie was not good.

Of course I expected this movie to be a chick flick, as in fun, interesting, pretty, satisfying and easy to identify with, and it was. I loved it! Katherine Heigl reminds me of Doris Day--beautiful, classy, funny, an "everywoman" and a great physical comedienne. To those reviewers here who complain that this movie is predictable, is that such a bad thing? When you order a hot fudge sundae, it's pretty predictable: you anticipate a pretty darn good time, right? Same thing here. A wonderful hot fudge sundae of a movie. Enjoy!
Cute, Zany, Happy Ending July 31, 2008
27 Dresses was a goofy movie, with hilarious acting, a codependent central character, crazy driving, snotty kid sister, typical macho but insensitive love interest, unrequited infatuation, and flawed but likeable prince-not-so-charming who gets the girl at the end. It also makes fun of the entire wedding industry, society page writeups, gift registries, as well as the goofy bridesmaid dresses that no one would wear again. Katherine Heigl (Jane) does a wonderful job as the never-ending bridesmaid, who loves planning and helping out at her friend's wedding, and her accidental relationship with a cynical and disgruntled wedding reporter who tricks her into modeling the 27 dresses, as he writes an expose all article on the perennial bridesmaid. Just when he Kevin (James Marsden) discovers he has feelings for her, his article gets printed, and then ensuing bad feelings return. However at the end, the 27 dresses get worn again, this time by the former brides in the wedding with the most number of bridesmaids.
It's a nice light summer movie to watch with friends, especially in June, wedding month, or at a bridal shower.

This young woman had the world by the tail, lots of friends, a good job, a nice home, her good health, and good looks, yet we're supposed to feel sorry for her? I did not. To be fair I only watched about a half hour of it then went to bed. My wife enjoyed it.
