Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
Sid Meier's SimGolf puts you in charge of your very own golf resort. You'll get to play the roles of course designer, CEO, and resident pro as your try and grow your business from a small, public pitch-and-putt to a five-star resort complete with private memberships, airstrips, and luxury hotels. To do this, you'll need to design courses that are fun and challenging and manage your resort's resources to satisfy your guests' growing needs. You'll even have a chance to test your course and golf skills when your Sims challenge you to a round.

You can create the world's most challenging and outrageous golf courses in a variety of different environments, including woodlands, desert, tropical, and Scottish links. Then you can build an entire golf resort from the ground up around your course. Hold tournaments, sell memberships, and entice the rich and famous to build homes at your resort. But make sure you manage wisely. Modify your course and resort so you can respond to the needs and interests of your Sims guests.

The skills test against your Sims is the penultimate challenge. Players can bring their existing Sims characters into the game with a user-friendly import tool or create their own Sim golfer from scratch. Customize and play your resident pro against other pros for a big cash purse you can use to upgrade your resort.

5 out of 5 stars Fun to design and then play your course   June 25, 2008
I bought this game a few years ago for $20 and it is still one of the best games I've ever bought. The game lets pick a part of the world you want to build a golf course, lets you design it down to the last detail and best of all you get to place the courses that you build. I never get tired of this game. Works fine with vista.

3 out of 5 stars A true review   August 1, 2007
I'm seeing those who are bashing and those who are praising.

So I'll direct my review at both views.

Pros:

You get to build your own golf course
You can play on your creation
You can hold tournaments
"Mini" RPG (You can improve your shots)

Cons:

Can get boring fast
Catch phrases get old
You can only build 18 holes, so there is a maximum capacity

My recommendation:

It's a Tycoon game, so if you don't like them, then you won't like this one.

I gave this game a 5 star fun rating, because it is quite fun to play. Though if you aren't willing to spend the money, then don't complain about it.

1 out of 5 stars Rapid loss of interest   August 22, 2006

Do yourself a favor and pass on this game. It's neither a good golf game or tycoon game. While you will initially have fun with this game the repetitiveness of it all will quickly bore you, it's just not a good game.

4 out of 5 stars Great.... but falls short.   January 1, 2005

I think SimGolf is a great game. For the people who gave this game a 1 or 2 star rating... you're just jealous. You couldn't build a better game (unless you know games). The championships that you can hold are pretty cool, but too easy, which isn't a dissapointment, but it could get in the way of some buyers. The game has good course options, such as pot bunkers, waste bunkers, and some course options you know already (if you play or watch golf). A few dissapointments... there's not enough land on the sandbox (no money-hassle) mode. You can buy land on normal mode (but only a little), and it's still not enough to give you a good course, and like some reviewers said, there's not enough buildings, which is kinda dissapointing. For golf and sim fans, buy this game! Or borrow it.
