4 out of 5 stars A Soldiers Tale....   October 27, 2007
Solid product. Have wasted many a deployed hour leveling up my characters. Not to sure about the multiplayer aspect due to inability to play over the internet but it sounds solid. Love the ability to create your own modulars. The interface is extreamly easy to learn and still provide a complex system. The chat scripts are a little tricky but its worth it in the end to learn...

3 out of 5 stars A Bit Buggy   January 17, 2007
Should the game be minimized for any reason (my anti-virus running an automatic check, for instance), the original NWN freezes, but the expansions don't. Tends to run slow in a few of the largest areas, since it was on a laptop, I'll admit my system may have been at least partially to blame.

XP1 had a few points, especially in the interlude, where puzzels lacked explaination and solving them proved very difficult, but they were always very inconsequential sidequests.

I did notice in the last chapter of XP2, the game froze five or six times, especially in the deepest wastes portion. All other problem I had involved my own lack of sitting down and thinking a riddle or puzzel through, so I have no other complaints. The story telling's great, the game's top notch, and I realyl love to play it again adn again and again.

5 out of 5 stars Better then NWN2 and any other RPG   January 7, 2007
Best role-playing game out there! The adventures out-of-the-box are ok. What makes the game have unending replay value are all of the free, user-created, multi-player modules that the game can run. Since these modules are user created, they are very varied: some are hack-and-slash, some encourage role-playing, and others require role-playing. Some have quick leveling, high magic and massive gold, while in others it is hard to find gold for a meal and a +2 sword is coveted by players with 100s of hours in the module. Some modules are easy; others require careful strategy to survive. Some are strongly player verses player; others have no player verses player and everything in-between. Many modules are set in Forgotten Realms, some are set in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth, some in J.K. Rowling Harry Potter, at least one in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, and many in totally user-invented worlds. Most worlds use English as the primary language, but there are a good number of French modules, and I bet other languages are represented.

Overall, a great game.

5 out of 5 stars Get the Diamond Edition instead   December 10, 2005

NWN is still a great game, thanks to the huge number of high-quality modules available for free on the Internet. I have never seen a computer RPG with as much replay value. Even the impending release of its sequel doesn't detract from it much. After all, it will take quite a while before NWN2 has anything close to the amount of free content available as NWN does.

But why would anybody choose at this point to purchase the Platinum DVD Edition? The Diamond Edition includes all the same content, plus a few extra "Premium" modules. And its "new" pricing on Amazon is actually lower than the less complete Platinum Edition.

If your computer has no DVD drive, then you might choose to buy the Platinum CD Edition, since the Diamond Edition is only on DVD. Also, if you are buying used, there is a slight price advantage to going with Platinum.

5 out of 5 stars RPG with a good storyline, good gameplay, and good replay value   November 29, 2005
NWN is probably the best RPG I have ever played, overall (with Planescape: Torment running second). It combines good gameplay with a great story and excellent replay value. It is a game where changing your class or alignment can affect the game, so you might actually want to play again. In addition, there are so many free expansion modules available online, that you can play dozens of other compelling stories.

This is a game that is a few years old. You can now pick it and all the expansions up for a pretty low price. The rules are somewhat daunting, but you don't need to know them all to play. I found that I could play without even looking at the books supplied, but then I would often go back and look at the book to help me decide what to equip, what spells to choose, et cetera. In that way, it is easy to learn as you go along.

The toolset is amazing, too. It is fairly easy to use in a rudimentary fashion, but you would need a little more skill to come up with a polished game. The number of people who do so is impressive, though, as there are so many fan-written modules available.

Overall, this is just a solid value in terms of gameplay and enjoyment, especially since the price is now so low. It's easy to spend 100+ hours on this game, its expansions, and free modules.
