great game December 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
i bought this game for my son and he loves it.him and his dad shares the xbox games.
Day 1 Edge sucks! December 25, 2008 Just a foreword, this is my review of one of what this Collector's edition promises to deliver, and that is the Day 1 Edge.
What enticed me to get this collector's edition was the Day 1 edge. But it's a big disappointment. The FG42 gun is indeed available from Level 1, but only in the pre-made Machine Gunner class, and cannot be customized with perks and all. The gun in this class doesn't have the stopping power perk, which cannot be changed. The FG42 has a high rapid fire and small clip, and empties in about a second. Without stopping power, you would need the whole clip to kill. This leaves you no room for any bit of mistake. If any of your bullets miss on that burst and your target turns to you, then you're pretty much doomed, because by now, you're holding on a gun with an empty clip. Also, facing an advanced enemy player that knows how to move from side to side, means you're dead too if you can't put all those bullets in. Imagine too how you would deal a situation where you encounter more than one enemy. This means a reload after killing one, and you probably could guess already how this would end.
Bottom line, if you mostly care about getting this edition due to the Day 1 Edge, then just forget about it. I hope this review is helpful.
Best World War II shooter ever. December 21, 2008 Great game. No it is not Modern Warfare. But it is also, not COD 3 either. Multiplayer is still fun and addictive, and you will not be disappointed.
Worth picking up regular edition if you can find a deal December 20, 2008 The only thing worth while in the collectors edition is the Double XP which plays as a game type (Officers Club). You can bring a game party with too so everyone can enjoy double xp which helps fill game types, but you will still have issues finding matches on off hours (Nobody bought collectors basically). The double xp only happens when the company feels like putting it up and so far I've seen it twice. So I'd be wary about buying the collectors at this point since you can't redeem the code to get Double XP at any time you feel like it.
The Canteen is a joke, you can't drink from it. The top is either glued or welded on. It wouldn't surprise me if the canteen contains lead since it is made in China and that is why they don't want you drinking from it.
Early level FG42 access as a preset class you can't edit perks or anything, so it is as good as worthless.
Tin game case is over sized and looks pretty cool but it's just a case.
Overall the game is enjoyable, graphics/audio, plenty of maps, weapons, tank fun. The single player is excellent and 4 player co-op is worth buying the game alone. There is also a bonus co-op game type zombie mode where you fight off Nazi Zombies wave after wave that is a ton of fun. Regular multiplayer though will keep you replaying the game so it has plenty of replay value.
The biggest gripe though I have with online game play is hit boxes & hit detection. If you played Call Of Duty 4 it is painfully obvious how different/off it is at times but you can adjust to it. Toss in the map glitches and some bugs that the company is slow to update, it will at times make you yell out WTF and get you worked up a bit but that might just be me.
With all these complaints I still like the game and feel it is worth picking up, but I'm pretty biased to World War II themed games and prefer them to modern combat. I'd recommend getting the regular version on sale or lower price and avoid collectors edition because it is simply not worth it.
Great Game December 17, 2008 This game is a great follow up to Cod 4. Hopefully unlike Cod 4 the new organizers of Cod 5 actually add things to the online gameplay. In Cod 4 nothing ever really changed. But over all the game is terrific. My only problem with the collectors edition is that the flask does not open.
